Why the Way You See Yourself Matters

Have you ever noticed how many boxes we are asked to fit into?

The fitness industry is particularly bad for this - They ask for your sex, weight, height, age. They take before & after photos, measurements, and videos...

And while there is a place for metrics and measures, there's very little discussion about how you see yourself, when the way you see yourself is ultimately THE most important part of your fitness and mindset journey… So why is the way you see yourself so important?

The way you see yourself determines your habits & default decisions

If you see yourself as someone who looks after their mind and body, you’re going to make decisions that align with that without additional effort or reasons. You’ll do it just because that’s what you do!

If you see yourself as someone who doesn’t care for their body, you are more likely to make less healthy choices and make less time to ensure your body is kept in good working order. It will feel like an overhaul and an effort to start making positive decisions because that isn’t what you already do.

The way you see yourself can come with limitations and barriers

If you see yourself as someone who is ‘weak’, ‘inflexible’ or ‘unfit, that’s going to place limits on the things you try and the belief you have in actually reaching certain goals. If you are ‘not the sort of person that likes exercise’ you’re primed not to like any new exercises you try.

When our identity places limits on what we can do or achieve, it’s created a limiting belief. These aren’t always helpful, but being aware of them is the first step to overcoming them and reaching your goals!

It helps us work towards your goals!

Not only does your identity matter to you, but it matters to me too!

Being able to show up as your most ‘you’ helps us find solutions and strategies that will best work for you as an individual. If the strategy we use aligns with who you see yourself as then you are far more likely to reach your goals and feel great about the process.

So how do you see yourself?

Take a moment to think about how you see yourself. Does your identity support your goals or is it placing barriers in your way?
